Don’t let the challenges of the holiday season break you—let them inspire you to shine even brighter.
This piece came to me during a time of reflection—holding both the sacredness of Mi’kmaq tradition and the tender light of Christmas. As the longest nights begin to give way to the return of the sun, may we all find strength, warmth, and truth in the turning of the seasons.
Through the Darkest Days
The darkest days have come and gone, But still, we stand, our spirits strong. Yule fires burn, their warmth ignites, A beacon glowing through the nights. O Holy Light of Christmas cheer, Mi’kmaq wisdom draws us near. Through cedar smoke and starlit skies, We find the strength that never dies. The wheel of seasons turns anew, The shadows fade, revealing truth. For every trial, each heavy yoke, The brightest fires in us evoke. Do not let winter’s grip confound, Its frost may sting, yet hope is found. These darkest days will shape our way, And guide us to a brighter day. In Yule’s embrace, the Oak King thrives, In Christmas hymns, love comes alive. The Mi’kmaq spirit whispers clear, “Hold fast, for brighter times are near.” So let your heart, like flames, burn bright, Shine fiercely through the longest night. For challenges mark the dawn of grace, The light ahead, a warm embrace. O Mother Earth, O sacred flame, In unity, we call your name. Through Yule, through Christmas, let us be, A light for all humanity.
